Astrology & Charts Settings
- Is Astro-Seek.com taking into account Daylight Saving Time (DST)?
- Yes, all astro calculations on Astro-Seek.com take into account Daylight Saving Time (DST) automatically.
Astro-Seek.com uses an external database of DST (Olson TZ database) - which is not 100% reliable in historical timezone records (before 1970) - and these records are updated/corrected several times a year manually.
If you encounter any mistake in DST calculation, please let me know for manual correction.
- Lunar Node position is different from other websites/software
- Astro-Seek.com calculates the Mean Lunar Nodes by default, while other sites/software might default to calculating the True Lunar Nodes.
You can change the Mean Nodes to True Nodes in "Extended settings", or set defaults in Astro settigns in your profile.
- My Lunar Phase is different from other websites/software
- This website uses 2 different "concepts" for Lunar phases:
- The birth chart is calculated using the astrological concept; The Lunar Calendar is calculated using the astronomical concept.
Birth chart
Birth chart - Astrological
uses the "8-fold Lunation cycle" concept (popularized by astrologer Dane Rudhyar); where each of the 8 phases lasts exactly 45° ecliptic degrees (cca 3.5 days). 0°-45° New Moon
45°-90° Waxing Crescent
90°-135° First Quarter
135°-180° Waxing Gibbous
180°-225° Full Moon
225°-270° Disseminating
270°-315° Last Quarter
315°-0° Balsamic
Lunar Calendar
Lunar Calendar - Astronomical
calculates the 4 main phases (New Moon 0°; First Quarter 90°; Full Moon 180°; Last Quarter 270°) as single short-time events.
Phases between these 4 main events are Waxing Crescent, Waxing Gibbous, Waning Gibbous, Waning Crescent. 0° New Moon
0°-90° Waxing Crescent
90° First Quarter
90-180° Waxing Gibbous
180° Full Moon
180°-270° Waning Gibbous
270° Last Quarter
270°-0° Waning Crescent.
- Astrocartography lines (especially Pluto ASC line) are different from other websites/software
- Astro-Seek.com uses the Zodiacal/Ecliptic projection method by default to calculate Astrocartography charts, which correspond 1:1 to the lines on the Relocation chart.
Other sites/software may default to calculating charts using the original ACG Mundo/Latitude method developed by astrologer Jim Lewis, which generates lines that correspond to the real astronomical visibility of planets in the sky for a viewer located at a fixed point on the surface of the Earth, but doesn´t correspond 1:1 to the lines on the astrology Relocation chart.
- Zodiacal/Ecliptic projection method: ASC lines show places, where planets are conjuncting the Ascendant; but planets (especially Pluto) might be several degrees above or below the Horizon. This method corresponds to the Relocation chart and planets conjunct exactly the relocated Ascendant.
- Mundo/Latitude original method: ASC lines show places, where planets are rising on the Horizon; but planets (especially Pluto) might be several degrees above or below the Ascendant. This method doesn't correspond to the Relocation chart and planets don't conjunct the relocated Ascendant.
- Some aspects in my Birth charts are missing. What aspect orbs do you use?
- 1) All Major aspects 0°, 90°, 120°, 180° are using the default orb 7°00' degrees.
If the luminary (Sun or Moon) is involved in the aspect, then orb is enlarged by +3°00' to 10°00'.
2) The Sextile 60° is using the default orb 4°00'.
If the luminary (Sun or Moon) is involved in the aspect, then orb is enlarged by +1°30' to 5°30'.
3) All Minor aspects 30°, 45°, 72°, 144°, 150° are using the fixed orb 2°30'.
Eg: Example of Sextile 60°:
- If your Mercury sextile Mars has an orb 4°00'01'', then such aspect will not be displayed in default settings.
- If your Sun sextile Mars has an orb 4°00'01'', then such aspect will be displayed in default settings, because Sun is involved and sextile orb was enlarged to 5°30'.
- If your Sun sextile Mars has an orb 5°30'01'', then such aspect will not be displayed in default settings.
- If you prefer larger-wider orbs, you can enlarge default orbs in "Extended settings:" by +10%, +20%, +30%, +40%, ... +90% ... to display more aspects.
- If you prefer smaller-narrower orbs, you can reduce default orbs in "Extended settings:" by -10%, -20%, -30%, -40%, ... -90% ... to display less aspects.
